As a Manawatu counsellor my role is to support people during challenging times, that could be causing anxiety, stress, distress or overwhelm.
This could be:
- Relationship, whānau or communication challenges
- Work stress
- Grief and loss of a loved one or a pet
- Identify or questioning 'who am I'
- Unexpected pregnancy
- Infertility/IVF journeys
- Traumatic birth experience
I provide support to people in different stages of their life, which is not limited to pregnancy, birth and parenthood. My role is to support you to find the key to unlock your full potential. Through working together, we can explore and gain insight into thoughts, feelings and belief structures about your current situation. This can support the process of unlocking different perspectives on your current situation.
Start your unique journey with Unique Beginnings
Research shows that 70-80% of successful therapy is about the therapeutic relationship between the counsellor and the person seeking support, rather than the approach itself.
As a counsellor, I meet you where you stand - no matter where you are in your experience of distress or trauma.
There is no rush to move fast, the pace of our meetings is at a flow that meets your needs.
I do not have a magic wand, but I do have an open heart to create an empathetic and genuine connection with others.
This connection is based on trust and understanding so we can build a relationship that is therapeutic for you. The therapeutic relationship is a space that enables healing to begin.
Culturally-diverse counselling services
I have found that a range of different therapy models supports the creation of a culturally diverse counselling space. Cultural competence ensures that you are seen through your own eyes, with consideration of the context of your lived experience. This means that together we will consider:
- mind,
- body,
- spiritual connections
- with considerations to intergenerational relationships,
- past, present, future you,
- through the guidance of Māori wellness model: Te Whare Tapa Whā
I utilise a range of therapy models to tailor my approach to respect diversity and your own unique needs. These tools consist of Interactive Draw Therapy, Somatic Therapy (body work), Brainspotting, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Narrative.
